Of course I need to write this in my broken English, because I have been part of the very international crowd at the show in Hamburg, and I loved it!
Since it was the first time for me visiting a stand up comedy show, and also feeling pretty confident about my Romanian heritage, I did not hesitate to offer to put myself in the front. Not needed though, because another fella Romanian beauty volunteered and gave us loads of stuff to laugh about.
Don’t worry, you do not get picked by chance, you can just raise your hand and submit something. The beginning of the show is nothing less then some lovely, funny match making, and judging from the very good looking crowd, it’s definitely better than any online dating platform. Turns out, fella Romanian beauty was as crazy as me, I am just medicated.
The lovely bunch of people turned out to have interesting jobs and even more interesting origins. Like the palestinian person and the Israelian activist, as well as the Italian, who saves lives on rescue boats in the Mediterranean. That one came from Italy to Hamburg to see the show! I hope by train, otherwise he would have been responsible for the climate crisis, which is one of the major causes for migration. Yeah, I better leave the jokes to Victor Pătrascan, who is an insanely well educated geography and history nerd, very well travelled and also, dare I say, kindly spirited (bă, mă refer la spirit frumos, om bun și așa…).
The show continued with the main question of the season: WHAT THE FUCK or, intelectually put: What is the biggest problem in the world?
We had the usual suspects/denominators: Capitalism, consumerism, the rich, energy supply. Personally I would have added dicks, but fella beautiful Romanian already rode around it a bit.
So we discussed “proper” things, with suggestions coming from the audience: Culture, wars, humanism. Puns? Plenty! This guy got me gasping for sure. And as an elder LOL with a Romanian upbringing, raised with the worst racism, blatant misogyny and utter ignorance of the surrounding world and culture, I am actually not easy to shock. At one point I had to cover my face in utter disbelief! Me! A grown ass woman!!
You might ask: Is it okay to poke jokes around these topics? This reminded me of a lecture called “Is ist okay to laugh after the Holocaust” that I never visited, but I got the essence of it yesterday, and I am very grateful for that. Sorry folks, you need to go and see it yourself, so you will know!
Also – use your fame to raise others up: Victor Pătrascan introduced a guest and second comedian, who brought some really good puns the crowd would have enjoyed more with subtitles – speaking of broken English and yeah, the crowd means me.

Oh, and the solution to all the world problems, which is obviously humans, is, you guessed it, humans.
My scientist ass would love to add redistribution and degrowth to the solutions, but we are humans: We know, we just don’t do it. Same for wars, for violence, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Safe travel, Victor, it was an honour seeing you! Your schedule matched very well with the Deutsche Bahn, I appreciate LOL
